~ James Phelon ~
The farming & 4-H communities lost a very special member in 2009, James Phelon. Jim loved operating his family farm, Prospect Valley Farm. When he was a youngster he sold vegetables, corn, and eggs door to door from his bicycle. It was Jim’s grandfather that gave him his first Guernsey Cow. Jim was well known for his love of his family, farming and the Milking Shorthorn breed. He especially enjoyed showing his cows with family & friends at many local and national shows.
Jim served as director for the National & New England Shorthorn Associations. He also served as director of the Mass Fair Association and the Westfield Fair Association. He continued to serve on these committees for many years. Jim was a thirty-year 4-H volunteer and was actively involved along with his wife and children.
Jim was one of the founding members of the Massachusetts Blue Ribbon Calf Sale over eight years ago. On behalf of the Blue Ribbon Committee, Massachusetts 4-H & Jim’s friends and colleagues it is our honor to dedicate this year’s sale to Jim Phelon.
He will be missed…
